Frontier Equine Assisted Leadership for Relationships
The Purpose
Our Relationship Coaching sessions use horses to foster connectedness and deepen both individual and group self‑awareness. You’ll improve communication skills and build stronger relationships through practical, ground-based experiences. Sessions focus on both personal and intrapersonal development, using horse-assisted activities to strengthen how you communicate, relate, and reflect.
How it Works
During your Relationship Coaching session, you will work with a trained facilitator and a horse, either individually or with one or more important people in your life. The facilitator guides you through progressive, building-block exercises and reflective activities aimed at improving relationship skills, enhancing communication, and building stronger connections.
What to Expect
Because horses respond honestly to your cues, they naturally facilitate self‑discovery and growth while you practise new ways of relating. Whether you attend individually or with others, you’ll have the opportunity to practise new communication and connection skills, receive direct feedback from the horse, and discuss your experiences in real time with your facilitator.

Strengthen Your Connectedness
HorsePower’s horse‑assisted sessions build practical skills—clear communication, emotional regulation, trust, and confidence—that strengthen your relationships long after each visit. Which areas would you like to focus on
Communication Skills
Emotional Awareness & Regulation
Learn to recognize and manage your emotions within relationships. The horse’s sensitivity helps bring awareness to your feelings, making it easier to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. This enhances understanding of what you feel and why, so you can respond thoughtfully rather than react.
Personal Development
Build confidence, clarity, and follow-through. Through guided, hands-on exercises with a horse, you’ll identify patterns, practise new habits, and turn insight into consistent action in your relationships and daily life.
Confidence & Facing Fear
Remind yourself to face fear safely and steadily. By working through challenges with a horse, you’ll practise calm focus, set clear boundaries, and build confidence and self‑esteem that carry into your relationships
Trust & Connection
Work on creating or restoring trust in your relationships. Through guided exercises, you’ll explore ways to build stronger bonds and foster emotional safety.
Navigating Life
If you’re facing significant changes, perhaps blending families or adjusting to new roles, these sessions provide tools to support you through uncertainty as a team or individually.
Intrapersonal Development
Deepen self-awareness and self-trust. Build the confidence to act on what matters in your relationships. Learn to notice your internal cues, regulate your nervous system, and stay present under pressure. The horse’s immediate responses help you recognize what’s happening inside and choose your next step thoughtfully.

Why Horse‑Assisted Learning Strengthens Relationships
Horses Require Genuine Connection
Horses respond only to authentic communication and respect. Working with them helps you develop clearer, more empathetic ways to connect—not just with horses, but also with the important people in your life.
Horses Reflect Emotional Dynamics
Because horses respond in real time to your feelings and behaviour, they offer honest feedback that helps you recognize and understand emotional patterns in your relationships. Their reflections facilitate self‑discovery and deepen mutual understanding.
Horses Inspire Mindful Reflection
Interacting with horses challenges you to be present, communicate clearly, and solve problems creatively. Their immediate responses encourage greater self-awareness and deeper insight into your relational habits.
Horses Mirror Your Impact
By responding directly to your behaviour, horses give you immediate awareness of how your actions affect others. This helps you build consistency, accountability, and emotional balance in your connections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? FEAL might be new to you, and it’s natural to wonder how it all works. We’ve put together answers to common questions here and on the FAQs page, but if you need anything else, please reach out!
Do I get to ride the horse?
No. At HorsePower, our FEAL sessions are always boots-on-the-ground. You won't ride or otherwise get on the horse!
Do I need to attend with my partner/other or can I come alone?
It's up to you! You can choose to attend alone or with your partner, family member, or another important person in your life. So it's yourself, an optional +1, your facilitator, and the herd.
How do horses provide feedback in relationship coaching?
Horses are highly sensitive to energy and behaviour. Their reactions reflect how you communicate and connect, offering honest, real-time insights that help you become more aware of your relational patterns.
Are these sessions a substitute for couples therapy?
FEAL Relationship Coaching offers a practical, experiential approach to improving relationships. It can complement traditional therapy but is not a replacement for clinical counselling when needed.
Where are FEAL sessions held?
Frontier Equine Assisted Leadership sessions are held in two BC locations:
Northeast BC: At Rock Alder Ranch, located in Charlie Lake, BC. At Mile 52 on the Alaska Highway, were just 7 minutes northwest of Fort St. John (Mile 47) or about 45 minutes northwest of Dawson Creek.
Vancouver Island: We also host sessions across Central Vancouver Island, at various partner facilities ranging from Victoria and north to Campbell River.
How are FEAL sessions structured?
The exact structure depends on the type of program—for example, individual, group, or school—but here's a general overview of how a session at HorsePower unfolds:
Meet & greet: Arrival, safety overview and set intentions so we know what matters most to you.
Intro: Gentle introduction to the horse and the space; you set the pace.
Action: Ground‑based activity (no riding) tailored to your goals. This may be leading, boundary work, obstacle navigation, or practising calm under pressure. You get real‑time feedback from the horse and facilitator.
Debrief: Review what happened, how your actions landed, and facilitator coaching.
Reflection: Guided conversation and optional written reflection; choose an “achievement word” that captures your key insight.
See‑yas!: Translate insights into practical next steps and optional light home practices; close and say goodbye.

What training do facilitators have?
Along with a lifetime spent on the ranch in the Frontier of BC, HorsePower’s Equine Assisted Learning facilitator is certified through Equine Connection’s rigorous EAL program. Equine Connection provides an internationally recognized and science-backed program, with both comprehensive coursework and practical requirements. Your facilitator is trained in the science behind equine-assisted learning, horse welfare and herd behaviour, structured, research-based exercises, client assessment and safety protocols, and clear ethical boundaries. You’ll get focused, consistent coaching from an experienced professional who knows both the herd and the lifestyle.
