Strengthen your leadership skills in a hands-on setting. You’ll work on practical leadership challenges such as communication, building trust, and making decisions. The horse gives you honest, real-time feedback on your approach, helping you see the direct impact of your actions. This is ideal if you’re looking to grow as a leader in any area of your life, whether at work or in other roles.
Frontier Equine Assisted Leadership for Individuals
The Purpose
HorsePower’s 1-on-1 FEAL (Frontier Equine-Assisted Leadership) sessions are educational, ground-based experiences designed to support your personal growth. Sessions are tailored to your needs and comfort level, and all activities take place alongside a horse, with no riding involved.
How it Works
During your session, you will work with both a trained facilitator and a horse. Your facilitator will guide you through structured exercises and reflective activities that help you identify and work toward your personal or professional goals.
What to Expect
You’ll have the chance to practise new skills, gain direct feedback from the horse, and discuss your experiences in real time with your facilitator. Each session offers a supportive environment where you can focus on real growth. Everything happens at a pace that suits you, with an emphasis on safety and support.

Choose the Growth That Matters to You
Our 1‑on‑1, ground‑based sessions use equine feedback to turn insight into action so you leave feeling clearer, calmer, and more confident about your next steps. Tell us your priorities, we’ll shape the session to fit.
Leadership Coaching
Mindfulness & Awareness
Each session is designed to help you develop greater presence and awareness. Working 1-on-1 with the horse and your facilitator, you’ll explore techniques to improve focus, manage emotions, and become more aware of how you show up each moment. The horse’s natural sensitivity helps you notice and understand your own state of mind, making mindfulness more accessible and practical.
Resilience Building
These 1-on-1 sessions focus on stress management and building resilience. Through guided exercises with the horse, you’ll practice staying calm under pressure and learn effective ways to handle setbacks or uncertainty. Your facilitator will support you in developing strategies that can be used beyond the session, helping you build a stronger foundation for dealing with challenges.
Healing & Recovery
These sessions are designed for individuals who are at risk or recovering from trauma. The horse serves as a non-judgmental partner, responding honestly to your presence and emotions. You set the pace, and all activities take place on the ground. Our supportive environment makes it easier to explore difficult feelings, rebuild trust, and support your healing process in a safe and private way.

Why Horse‑Assisted Learning Works for Personal Growth
Horses Demand Connection
Horses require genuine communication and respect. Working with them helps you develop clear, respectful ways to connect... and not just with horses but also with people in your life!
Horses Offer Emotional Insight
Horses react to your feelings in real time. Their blunt approach gives you honest feedback that makes it easier to recognize and process emotions in a safe environment.
Horses Encourage Reflection
Working with horses challenges you to solve problems creatively and communicate clearly. Their honest, instant responses help you become more self-aware and set meaningful, personal goals.
Horses Mirror Your Actions
Because horses respond directly to your behaviour, you gain immediate insight into how your actions affect others. This helps improve self-control, consistency, and accountability in daily life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about how FEAL works? You’re not alone—this approach is new to many people. If you don’t see your question here, visit our full FAQs page or just reach out. We’re happy to chat and help you feel confident about your next step.
Is FEAL designed to help horses or people?
FEAL is designed to help people. The sessions are human-focused personal development and leadership coaching, using horses as partners on the ground. The horse provides real-time, honest feedback that helps you build skills like communication, awareness, resilience, and emotional regulation. The horses aren’t being trained or treated. They’re calm, carefully selected partners that support your growth in a safe, guided setting.
Do I get to ride the horse?
No. At HorsePower, our FEAL sessions are always boots-on-the-ground. You won't ride or otherwise get on the horse!
What if I am scared of animals?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous or even scared around horses! Remember, you set the pace. You never have to do anything you’re not comfortable with. All FEAL sessions are ground-based, no riding involved. Your facilitator is experienced in helping people with all levels of comfort around horses and will guide you step by step. Our horses are calm and used to working with people who may be new or nervous. Give it a try—we're sure you will surprise yourself!
Where are FEAL sessions held?

Northeast BC: At Rock Alder Ranch, located in Charlie Lake, BC. At Mile 52 on the Alaska Highway, were just 7 minutes northwest of Fort St. John (Mile 47) or about 45 minutes northwest of Dawson Creek.

Can you host a session at my location?
Maybe! It would depend on knowing some specifics, so if you are interested in having HorsePower, please reach out to us through this website and explain your needs. We'll get back to you and see how we can help.
How are FEAL sessions structured?
The exact structure depends on the type of program—for example, individual, group, or school—but here's a general overview of how a session at HorsePower unfolds:
Meet & greet: Arrival, safety overview and set intentions so we know what matters most to you.
Intro: Gentle introduction to the horse and the space; you set the pace.
Action: Ground‑based activity (no riding) tailored to your goals. This may be leading, boundary work, obstacle navigation, or practising calm under pressure. You get real‑time feedback from the horse and facilitator.
Debrief: Review what happened, how your actions landed, and facilitator coaching.
Reflection: Guided conversation and optional written reflection; choose an “achievement word” that captures your key insight.
See‑yas!: Translate insights into practical next steps and optional light home practices; close and say goodbye.

What training do facilitators have?
Along with a lifetime spent on the ranch in the Frontier of BC, HorsePower’s Equine Assisted Learning facilitator is certified through Equine Connection’s rigorous EAL program. Equine Connection provides an internationally recognized and science-backed program, with both comprehensive coursework and practical requirements. Your facilitator is trained in the science behind equine-assisted learning, horse welfare and herd behaviour, structured, research-based exercises, client assessment and safety protocols, and clear ethical boundaries. You’ll get focused, consistent coaching from an experienced professional who knows both the herd and the lifestyle.
